Ascension Seton is Changing the Austin Skyline
As we approach the one-year groundbreaking anniversary of the new Women’s Tower at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (ASMCA), we are excited to see the developments made so far.
Witnessing the construction is truly inspiring! Ascension Seton Foundation (ASF) is so thankful to the dedicated volunteers and generous donors who are pivotal in supporting our Women First Initiative. This initiative is not just about a tower; it’s about building a future where comprehensive women’s programs, cutting-edge equipment, and groundbreaking research converge to elevate healthcare for women across Central Texas. Ascension Seton is investing $320 million in the expansion of women’s health. The new eight-story, 282,000 square-feet tower will feature 150 inpatient beds, capacity for approx. 7,500 infant births, upgraded and new equipment, plus the addition of up to 260 new full-time employees.
Closer to the State Capitol, you’ll also see cranes and construction activity. This is because Ascension Seton started work to expand Dell Seton Medical Center at UT Austin at the end of last year. Construction crews are making great progress and working rapidly on this expansion, which will add 150 beds, and more than 160,000 square-feet to the county’s safety net hospital.
The expansion will include:
- Six new operating rooms with pre-operation, post-anesthesia care unit space
- Inpatient rehabilitation gym
- On-call suites
- ICU expansion
- Clinical, outpatient spaces
- Neurology, wound and burn care, oncology, and abdominal transplant facilities
- Complex digestive health capabilities
Ascension Seton is investing $280 million to expand and revamp Dell Seton. ASF and the Community Leadership Council are honored to help raise funds to support the critical programs, capital needs, and research that will occur in this wonderful and newly expanded facility.
Joel Rice, ASF Executive Director says: “It is hard to believe that we have two incredibly significant expansions occurring. Each of these expansions is critical in ensuring we not only can provide care to our rapidly growing population, but also that patients receive the highest level of care, without having to leave Austin for treatments. Together, we’re shaping a brighter, healthier tomorrow!”
We look forward to the finished construction next year, and the improved healthcare access it will bring to the Austin community.
