Dell Seton Associates Put “The Art of Healing” on Display

Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas (DSMCUT) has unveiled a new art display called “The Art of Healing” showcasing the creative talents of its associates. The exhibit brings additional beauty to the main lobby and allows associates a place at work to share their talents outside of their clinical gifts.

The display includes photography, paintings and mixed media. One artist, a physician assistant, included medical sponges in his piece as a way of combining his artistic and clinical sides.

Thurman McGowen, RN, approached leadership with the idea for an associate art display several months ago. A member of the pre-admission testing department, he also loves wildlife photography, and offered his photo of a brightly colored roseate spoonbill to the exhibit.

“People have talents that we don’t even know about,” Thurman said. “The art also helps to create a warm and welcoming environment for the patients and the staff.”

“The Art of Healing’ will accept new submissions from DSMCUT associates every six months to allow as many associates as possible to share their work.
