Dell Seton Nurse Provides Compassionate Care with a Cup of Coffee
A cup of Thunderbird coffee was part of the morning routine for Benni Goetz before the pandemic caused the cafe to close their brick and mortar locations. Benni recounted his love for this specific coffee to his nurse Josie Smith while he was undergoing long-term cancer treatment at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas.
Josie, always looking for ways to surprise and delight her patients, did a quick online search for Thunderbird coffee so she could bring one to Benni and lift his spirits. To her dismay, Thunderbird had no physical locations, only a mobile coffee cart. She remained undeterred and contacted the company to share Benni’s story, offering to pay to have a cup of joe delivered to Dell Seton.
The company did her one better. Owner Greg Henny offered to bring their mobile cart setup to the 7th floor unit to serve complimentary coffee to Benni, his family, and his entire care team.
Greg delivered on his promise and set up a mobile Thunderbird coffee location outside Benni’s room. He was positively shocked to see an old friend in Greg who handed him a cup of his favorite coffee.
Thank you to Josie along with Benni’s entire care team at Dell Seton for living out our mission and advocating for a compassionate and just society through our actions and our words. Your work is truly inspiring!
